The Radiodetection C.A.T4 cable avoidance tool is a user-friendly device designed to assist excavation engineers in identifying, mapping, and ultimately avoiding underground utilities during excavation projects. These utilities can include electricity cables, data and telecommunications cables, pipes, and building structures. For optimal performance, the C.A.T4 is best utilized in conjunction with Radiodetection's Genny4 Signal Generator. This pairing enables the detection of hidden utilities that may not produce sufficient electromagnetic field EMF or radio signals for the C.A.T4 to detect independently. The C.A.T4 incorporates 'StrikeAlert' software, which provides a visual indication of utilities situated close to the ground surface. This feature serves as a warning of potential 'strike' risks that could arise if these utilities remain undetected. The C.A.T4 offers four distinct operating modes: avoidance mode, genny mode, power mode, and radio mode. Avoidance mode: Simultaneously detects genny, power, and radio signals. Power mode: Detects electromagnetic fields EMFs) surrounding buried power cables. Radio mode: Detects long-range radio signals traveling along buried pipes and cables. Genny mode: Exclusively detects signals generated by the Radiodetection Genny4 Signal Generator. The C.A.T4 also features 'Dynamic Overload Protection' to filter out unwanted electrical noise commonly encountered near electrical substations and surface-mounted high-voltage cables. These noise sources can interfere with the detection of buried utilities. Signal strength is displayed on a high-contrast, backlit LCD screen featuring a bar graph 'tidemark' for quick and easy identification of hidden utilities
